Outdoor activities

The river Leny and Loch Lubnaig are just a stones throw from the caravans and river fishing for trout is available. Fishing tackle may be hired if required.

Other outdoor activities immediately available include: Walking and cycling - the Callander to Killin cycleway is at the bottom of the site, canoeing is available from Strathyre at the north end of the loch and for those interested in wildlife the area teems with a variety of wild birds and animals.

Canoes and bicycles can be hired locally.

For the more strenuous walkers, Ben Ledi (hill of God) is behind the farmhouse and the footpath up the mountain starts 300 yards from the farm. The Crags at Callander offer a variety of easy (ish) walks and rise to about 800 ft with splendid views to the Trossachs hills and to Stirling, Abbey Craig and Dum-yat.

Other mountains within easy reach are: Ben Vane, Stuc a Chroin, Ben Vorlich, Ben More, Stobinian.

Scenery

Loch Lubnaig, famed for its still waters and reflections is just 2 minutes walk from the farm.
The fabulous Falls of Leny just a few hundred yards in the opposite direction.

Glen Ogle with its falls, Wade's military road and the splendid walk up the glen on the old rail track with its viaduct is less than 15 minutes drive.
The Trossachs trail, passing Loch Venachar, Loch Achray and Loch Katrine starts from Kilmahog just 2 miles away.

For a panoramic view over the glen, visit Panoramic view over loch Lubnaig. (Takes just about a minute to load but worth the wait for the views from Ben Ledi).

Main Towns to visit:

  • Glasgow - less than 1 hour
  • Edinburgh - about 1 hour, or take the train from Stirling.
  • Perth - about an hour via Loch Earnside and Crieff.
  • Groceries and other shops are in Callander - 3 miles.
  • Callander also has a good variety of places to eat out - pubs, restaurants, cafes and 3 chippies!

Local hotels and pubs offer a variety of entertainment (see 'entertainments')

To Find Us

From Callander, follow signs for Crianlarich & Fort William. Pass through the hamlet of Kilmahog (1m) then after about  2m, watch on the left for the sign to 'Forest Enterprise' over the metal bridge. Take this road over the bridge and follow the track to the right marked 'no access'. You will then see the three caravans about 250 yards on the right.
